Sir Aaron Houndbane

How Sir Aaron came to be known as Houndbane.

Once upon a time, several fair maidens went on a quest to gather wild flowers on the edges of Eiterbie. Laughing brightly and skipping from flower to flower, arms laden with colour and fragrence, the fair maids noticed a darkning of the sky, and a bitter chill gathering in the air, and at once decided to return to the safety of thier homes. Now they must need go through a wood, as the road home demanded. As they went, dark clouds grew deeper across the sky, and the brush hissed as it bent and trembled in the rising wind and the trees groaned in their swaying, adn fear made the strength of thier hearts grow small. However, although strange sounds cracked, scraped, and moaned in the wood, nothing happened as they drew nearer to the warm hearths awaiting them. The light of home becoming visible, the hearts of the maidens grew anew, despite the faint sounds of something, possibly, lurking amidst the rustle of leaf and tree. Just when their hearts were at thier full, a great darkness bounded from the trees onto the path before them--snarling, snapping, reeking--a great hell-hound, an icky from the wild! The maidens screamed in terror, and the fell beast lunged and reached with his fangs to tear them, held back only by the colour and scent of the good flowers. The maidens were certain that the hellhounds courage would soon mount agaisnt the flowers, and called for help.

***

It came to pass that a man, riding on his way home, heard the screams of the fair maidens, and spurred his horse forward. Rounding the last bend upon the path, the poor horse saw the black beast with its flesh ripping claws and pannicked, throwing the rider amidst the maidens and bolting the other way.

The man however, saw the danger to the maidens, and his heart grew large with courage, and taking the stem of a great flower (having no sword) he brandished it against the beast, railing against him, with nothing but good boldness against the teeth that part life from flesh! Putting himself between maidens and the beast he held is ground, standing in the gap.

(Now the flower he was holding was called Peter's Sword, for it is white with sword shaped petals)

And as he stood and dashed between the maidens and the beast the flower grew larger, and colder, and sharper--an lo! A sword was in his hands--a bright sword, a slicing sword--and sword met fang, and steel met bone, and the sword dove deep into the heart of the slobbering hound, and it died thrashing and wallowing in black blood at the feet of the man--Aaron of Slabia!

Propposed Flag Prototypes

Here we have the various prototypes put out so far in one place. Remember, some of this could be mixed and matched (for instance, darker outlined swords as seen on the red flag, could be put on a blue background in place of the lightly outlined swords on the blue) Please review, and if your Eiterbian, put in your two cents. Remember, it should look cool, but also symbolise our Great Empire. Explanations of the emblems can be found elsewhere on this blog.

It has been suggested that the hockey sticks be replaced with a fairy tale book. Of course, Upper Mattia could be represented by a raccoon, Slabia by a hell hound run through with a sword, and Uper Matia by...well, maybe an M. But that would be getting VERY VERY crowded, esp. if everyone is represented in a an equal size, which would be proper (IMO) and wouldn't work so well.

Time line of the Empire

BFT 1400 Mikalian People arive in the ancient Eiterbien homeland

BFT 1460 (Ish) Isacadian, Ritzian, Raugustian, Dustinian, Malinian People Gather in the ancient homeland of Eiterbie

BFT 1475 The First dynasty begins under the Ritzian people

BFT 1150 The great rebellion. During this time the Dustinian people make a claim to the Throne. During this time the great masacre occurs, during which time the Mikalian, the Malian and the Dustinian peoples are nearly wiped out. The Dustinian People are driven into the Forests, however Emigrate with the other tribes. The Mikalian and Malian people chose to remain in what is left of their homeland. The Mikalian and Malian peoples remained officially on the side of the Emperor, however did little to aid the War. In 1046 they launched a 6 month campaign against the Dustinian peoples, that both sides where nearly completely wiped-out. The Raugusian peoples flip flopped a lot and generally stayed out of it unless attacked, and even then usually stayed neutral.

BFT 1042 The End of the first dynasty, with the sacrifice of the Emporer and the Royal Guard to safeguard the Great Exit at St Peter‘s (Northern or Southers) pass. It is here that the Last Ritzian Emperor sees a vision of ST Peter’s sword, and takes it up to defeat the enemy, dying in the process with his Royal Guard. It is at this time that most of the remaining Mikalian and Malian tribes are lost. The Last daughter of the Ritzian peoples is rescued by the Kings Advisor, a Isacadian, marries him, thus preserving the government.

BFT 1040 The beginning of the Second dynasty, and the settling of the new homeland. Here the Isacadians rule a now divided Empire over the Ritzian, Raugustian, and Isacadian people, though they enjoy good relationships with the other tribes. Here the Northern Matian and the Southern Matian Peoples join the Eiterbien nation. However there is frequent refusal to acknowledge the Imperial rule. Still relationships despite some skirmishes, remain cordial.

BFT 695 The Empire for all purposes ceases to exist, though the Empire still bears its name. The emperors still rule, but in name only. Another Isacadian, becomes the Master of the Imperial horse (careleader), a title, that for all sakes and purposes gives him rule over all the Eiterbien Empire. Though only the Isacadian, Raugustian and Ritzian people officially aknowledge the Emporer,

BFT 500 the Slabian Tribe joins the ‘Empire’

BFT 300 all Tribes rule themselves. No central authority

BFT 15 The Isacadian tribe takes in the nomadic Tribe of the Tashians

0 T The triumvirate is founded, consisting of the Leaders of the Ritzian, Isacadian, and the Dustinian peoples.

2 T The Ritzian peoples take in the nomadic tribe of the Spencians
